Bricks for Peace
As a younger man I worked on a crew that installed water and sewer lines. One job involved digging huge holes in a residential DC area for pump units that would move sewage from low lying communities to the main lines at street level . Each swipe of the hoe bucket brought up fragments of the past. Dirt that had seen older times when streets were paved in brick. Tannish,yellowish bricks by the scoop full. I managed to retrieve and bring home several complete specimens. Each one has molded into it a name. Venus Mars Crescent Woodland I have hauled these with me since ,from house to house to house. Always serving as a decoration or waiting patiently until they finally got placed at the entrance to the area in the Wood I now reside in where I tented for a Summer giving that now sacred space it’s name: Woodland I recently saw a witchy type jokingly referring to a brick as their favorite protection stone.
